The Principles of Good UI Design

Good UI design isn't about adding more visual elements. It's about making an interface easy to understand, navigate, and use.
Create clear visual hierarchy
Users should instantly understand what is most important on the screen. Use size, weight, spacing, and contrast to establish a clear hierarchy.
Keep interactions predictable
Buttons should look like buttons. Navigation should behave consistently. When users understand how something works, they can focus on completing their task instead of figuring out the interface.
Use spacing as a design tool
Whitespace gives content room to breathe and helps separate different sections of an interface. Consistent spacing can make even a complex layout feel organized.
Design for clarity
Avoid unnecessary decoration when it competes with the user's goal. Every element should have a purpose.
The best interfaces often feel simple because thoughtful decisions have removed everything unnecessary.
